Forensic Science Day – Learning to Solve Crimes

 January 27 2016 | Kent & Medway | Views: 1709

Four groups of students from four local schools came to Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) to learn more about how to investigate crime. One group of students, from Aylesford is studying forensics at school, so it was especially useful for them. The team at CCCU who are experts in crime investigation helped all the students solve a crime that had been set up for them.

First, the crime scene – where the students had to record all that they observed and work out what to take for further testing. Then Forensic Biology where the blood splatters were analysed. Thirdly, Forensic Chemistry gave the students the chance to work out who wrote the note and finally Fingerprinting, where the suspect’s fingerprints were compared to those left at the crime scene.

There were a lot of lively questions from the students and creative thinking to work out what certain patterns meant.

Some comments from the students who came:

  • “I think it was a very good day and I am happy I came.”
  • “I had an amazing day”
