Basildon Street Science Festival

 July 13 2019 | Essex | Views: 1799

The Basildon Street Science Festival 2019 took place on Saturday the 13th of July in the heart of Basildon’s town centre.

This was the second year we have supported this fantastic event! We decided to have a space theme to the STEM activities we took along to the event this year. We travelled to the planets in our solar system along a till receipt. Launched rocket mice to the moon and searched for them with a telescope.

There were many other stands at the event and many of them were supported by STEM ambassadors as well! The event grabbed the attention of people who had just come into town to do their shopping. We had people from all age groups taking part and many staying in town much longer just to make sure they visited every activity.

We had a visit from, Stephen Metcalfe MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock who was former chair of the science select committee and the 2018 UK ambassador for the year of engineering. Stephen endorsed the fair for its impact on the community.
The ambassadors supporting this event were amazing many turning up very early to help set up others staying longer than intended and staying to help tidy up.

Basildon Street Science is a public engagement with science event which showcases science and engineering to the Basildon community by bringing together scientists, school STEM clubs and STEM based organisations to engage with the community through hands-on activities.

Basildon street Science is a regional branch event of the Royal Society of Biology. It is organised by Hephzi Tagoe a very active STEM Ambassador, who is local to Basildon.
